I don't have a problem with their growing lineup. It's not like they stopped making their usual stuff, they just expanded it a bit to meet market demands. And all the people who complain about it should keep in mind that these are the cars that put enough money into their pockets to build the cars we enthusiasts lust over.

It just seems unnecessary to have models like the 4 series grand coupe, which is almost the same as the 3 series. Same for the 6 series GC which is competing with the 7 series. The X4 seems pointless too. I'm just frustrated they have all of those, but no modern Z4 M Coupe.

Dude, the 4GC and 6GC are gorgeous looking cars. Everybody and their grandma are heaping praise on the A5 and A7, I don't see why BMW can get some respect for tapping into that market.

The 4GC is exactly the car I would get if I had the money. Better looking than the normal 3 series but still a 4-door car when you you need it.

The X4 is weird, just like the X6, but they sold over 400000 of those world-wide, so one could call it a success, which they are hoping to repeat.

Tthe 4GC is gorgeous, the only thing that would hold me back from buying on would be the extra weight. If I had no plans to track it though, I'd be all over a 4GC. also, I like the extra space I get with the GC vs the sedan.

Methinks you are confusing the 4 GC (above) with the 3 GT (below). Both are variants of the 3 series. The 3 series Grand Touring is a slightly raised 3 series hatchback. The 4 series Grand Coupe is a widened and lowered 3 series sedan, more like a four door version of the 3 series coupe which is called a 4 series.

no, the 4GC is the one I was talking about. It weighs ~150lbs more according to BMW's website. To be honest, I thought the weight difference was more than it is, thats not as huge an issue. However, I'd forgot that it comes in automatic only(for now at least). That would be a track-day dealbreaker. This is what I meant about more storage space:(its from this review)

But I would still love to have one as a DD. Now if only I had the money. And the garage.

Same 8 spd automatic that's in the M235i, and just about all BMWs. Seems to be doing fine, although I'd prefer a DCT instead.

I've driven a car with the 8, it was decent, probably the best auto I've driven, but given the issues that my dad gets in his BMW out on the track with the car trying to downshift when he doesn't want it to, I'd rather just avoid the issue entirely. If it came in a DCT though, it would be back on the menu.
